Introducing the Curated Indie Authors Program

At BLK & Company Reads, we’ve always had a simple yet powerful mission: to celebrate and promote Black authors, especially those whose voices often go unheard. With that being said, we’re taking the next step in aligning with that mission, and we couldn’t be more excited to share the news with you! 

Say hello to the Curated Indie Authors Program, a new initiative designed to spotlight and support Black indie authors with debut novels or small catalogs. This program is more than just a way to grow our catalog—it’s a way to continue our mission of uplifting fresh voices and amplifying stories that deserve to be heard.

Why the Curated Indie Authors Program?

When we started this bookstore, we dreamed of creating an exclusive space where readers could find a thoughtfully curated selection of books that celebrate the diversity and brilliance of Black authors. But we quickly realized there was another opportunity: not just curating existing works but actively supporting the creation and promotion of new ones.

Black independent authors often face challenges breaking into the market, so we wanted to provide a platform specifically for them. This program is our way of connecting talented authors with readers who are eager for fresh, diverse stories.

How It Works

We’ll be selecting 1-2 indie authors each month to feature in our store. These authors will have their books showcased online for a 90-day consignment period, giving their work a chance to reach an engaged and supportive audience.

• Authors Keep 60% of Sales: The majority of every book sale goes directly to the author.
• Dedicated Promotion: We’ll spotlight the selected books on our website, social media, and in our newsletters to give these authors the recognition they deserve.
• Community Connection: This isn’t just about selling books—it’s about creating a platform for readers and authors to connect through storytelling.

Why This Matters

Our goal has always been to create a space where Black authors are celebrated, and readers can discover stories that resonate deeply. By partnering with indie authors, we’re not just growing our catalog—we’re creating opportunities for incredible talent to shine. This program is a way for us to give back to the literary community and help bridge the gap between authors and readers who crave authentic, diverse stories.
